Research
We conduct ground-breaking original research with primary sources — immigrants who are living the consequences of an immigration system that was designed to offer the illusion of justice, not actual dignity, fairness, and equality.
However, we do not simply illuminate the problems with today’s immigration laws and policies. We source actionable solutions from the real experts — immigrants and their loved ones — and take those recommendations directly to policymakers and the media.
“Behind Closed Doors: Black Migrants and the Hidden Injustices of U.S. Immigration Courts” is a six-part series looking at racism in immigration court, law, policy, and practice.
Broken Hope: Deportation and the Road Home combines results from 255 interviews with people who were deported, and other social science research, to outline the impact of deportation on children, families, communities, and society. It outlines steps for Congress, the Executive Branch, the pro-immigration movement, media, and funders to take so that families and communities can begin to heal.
